no racism.
no sexism.
no ageism.
no ableism.
no fatphobia.
no xenophobia.
no transphobia.
no homophobia.
no misgendering.
As a Black and Queer-led collective, we operate on a Safer and Intentional Spaces policy as a way of celebrating and safeguarding Black LGBTQIAP+ people, allowing them to express their identities intersectionally.
This policy, first written in 2021, highlights the belief of not forcing our existence upon those who do not acknowledge or see us as equals. Therefore, spaces like ours should be created, expanded and uplifted to champion and support our histories and voices, beyond borders and languages.
If you do not identify yourself as a Black LGBTQIAP+ person, please be considerate of any existing privileges and the space you take on, even when supporting us by attending any events that might be at capacity. There are other great ways of supporting our project – by donating, by sharing it with others or by providing resources.
We have a zero tolerance policy for any kind of prejudice, harassment, or intimidation at our event, as well as within our platform. This means: no racism, no sexism, no ageism, no ableism, no fatphobia, no xenophobia, no transphobia, no homophobia, no misgendering, or any other sort of prejudice based on religious affiliation.
Keep in mind that not everyone will be down to interact, as people’s comfort levels vary. Do not force yourself into other individuals’ personal space since consent must come from both sides.
Our community is very diverse, from gender to ethnicity. Do not make any assumptions about people’s identities or pronouns – just ask.
In 2022, we introduced a new tier system to support those of lower income or working-class backgrounds. Non-Black and/or non-Queer allies are expected to pay more to access our events, since their contribution covers the expenses of those entering our activities at an affordable price.
Since 2024, a new Safer Spaces Certificate (SSC) has been in the works to help distinguish which activities and events are 100% covered by our policy, and which ones are not. Collaborative events are most likely not to be fully covered by the new SSC, due to the lack of capacity, resources within our team, and other external elements that go beyond our own control. The SSC is crucial for the safeguarding of both attendees and our crew members.
As a self-funded project, most of our financial support comes through the community who graciously attend our events and buy our art. As of January 2024, a new donation option has been added to our tier system to help us facilitate future activities and events. This option is open to everyone, regardless of their geographical location, as many wish to support the collective even when not physically capable of.
Whenever possible, events will be held at accessible venues – meaning venues with accessible toilets, step-free access, and other factors that provide better support to disabled people – and image descriptions, as well as alt text, should be available in our social media posts to ease access to our content for any visually impaired community members.
As part of our work in progress, we are looking to introduce Sign Language Interpreters in most of our events – from panel talks to roundtable conversations, workshops, and even larger performances. When financially possible, we also aim to hire and provide training to our own security staff, making them aware of our policies to provide a higher rate of success or our safeguarding policies.
