The pride of being. The pride of community. The pride of liberation.
Black Pride Matters is a celebration of Black and queer identity, advocating for the recognition of Black History in Portugal and the creation of inclusive spaces for LGBTQI+ communities. Rooted in Cova da Moura, in the Linha de Sintra — a region with one of the highest percentages of Black people of Afro-Lusophone descent in the country — the project brings together art, culture, music and performance to highlight the creativity, resilience, and joy of Black communities.
Black Pride Matters is a space of existence, resistance, and imagination. It celebrates the fusion of African and Afro-diasporic heritages, fostering visibility, connection, and empowerment, and providing a platform for diverse artists to express cultural pride. Through its events and activations, the project transforms narratives, nurtures dialogue within the community, and champions spaces where heritage, identity, and self-expression are celebrated openly and collectively.
